Summer Concert Season in Colorado

Summer Concert Season in Colorado

Why Red Rocks Hits Different

There’s something about summer in Colorado that just feels electric. IYKYK… Longer days. Golden sunsets. Patio dinners. Mountain air. And of course… concert season at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

If you’ve never experienced a show at Red Rocks, it’s hard to fully explain the feeling. Built naturally into massive red sandstone formations just outside Denver, the venue is equal parts concert, hike, spiritual experience, dance party, and a Colorado summer tradition.

And if you HAVE been? Then you already know.

It's in our BACKYARD!

For those of us lucky enough to live nearby, it becomes part of the rhythm of summer, one that I, for one, LOVE and look forward to each year. From packing the bag of essentials (yes, you can still bring one in), to debating which parking lot is best, to the sunshine and surprise rainstorms, cloudy evenings and starry nights, to the collective joy of thousands of music lovers gathering together… It’s such a part of our existence, part of the Colorado story, and when it's in our backyard, it is easy to forget, people travel from all over the world to experience live music at Red Rocks. At our most recent outing to Sublime, we met more music lovers from as far as Florida, Hawaii and even Scotland, than were native to Colorado!

From indie folk under the stars to EDM dance nights, sunrise yoga, country concerts, symphony performances, reggae sunsets, movie nights, and LEGENDARY rock bands, every visit feels a little different. And honestly? Even the walk up those stairs becomes part of the memory. For as many times as I have been, no two entrances, or exits for that matter, have been the same. It is an adventure that truly needs to be experienced.

Why Red Rocks Is More Than Just a Concert Venue

What makes Red Rocks so special isn’t only the lineup, in fact, that’s just one small part. It’s really the whole shebang.

The Red Rocks Experience

  • Tailgating in the parking lots before shows
  • Friends dancing in anything from hiking boots and vintage tees to sequin mini skirts and cowgirl boots
  • Sunset views over the foothills (I think there are a few songs about this)
  • Moon rise glimpses over Downtown Denver
  • Crisp mountain air mixed with bass vibrating through the red sandstone rocks
  • People from every generation and walk of life sharing incredible music together

It’s one of those places that reminds you why all seasons of Colorado living are so magical. And summer 2026 is shaping up to be another fantastic one that will be sure not to disappoint, with artists spanning every genre imaginable!

Standout Summer 2026 Shows Already Creating Buzz Include

  • Beck
  • LCD Soundsystem
  • Yo Yo Ma
  • Mt. Joy
  • Nathaniel Rateliff with the Colorado Symphony
  • Brandi Carlile
  • Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony
  • Blues Traveler
  • Empire of the Sun
  • Paul Simon
  • The Strokes
  • Reggae on the Rocks
  • Film on the Rocks summer movie nights

The lineup changes constantly as more shows are announced throughout the season so be sure to check back often.

Tips for Your First Red Rocks Show

If you’re planning your first, or even 100th, starry night at Red Rocks here’s a few pro tips that will not only help you show up looking like a local, but will make the night that much more enjoyable:

In-the-know from a Colorado Girl

  • Arrive early for parking and sunset views. (There’s a shuttle now, but honestly, the hike is half the fun.) A picnic is also a pretty perfect way to start the festivities.
  • Bring layers, maybe even a raincoat or poncho, summer nights can cool off fast and thunderstorms have a tendency to roll in quickly.
  • A blanket or wrap goes a looooonnnngggg way.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and expect your legs to get a workout. Those stairs are no joke… and ideally, you’ll be on your feet shaking that booty all night.
  • Earplugs are available at most concession stands, but they sometimes run out. Even (especially) the locals use them, so I usually bring my own
  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Extra water here and there goes a long way with the altitude. (Pro-Tip: you can bring in an unopened factory sealed water bottle and refill at the water fountain)
  • Explore Morrison before the show or arrive extra early to check out the Colorado Music Hall of Fame
  • Don’t rush out afterward, soaking in the atmosphere is part of the experience, but watch out for the local wild life. There may occasionally be a certain “skunky” aroma floating through the air that may not be as welcome as another.

Living Near Experiences Like This

One of my favorite things about living in Boulder County and the Front Range is how easily everyday life blends with adventures people from all over the world travel here for.

  • A Tuesday night concert at Red Rocks.
  • A quick mountain hike before brunch.
  • Yoga in the park before happy hour.
  • Dinner on a patio in Boulder or Longmont.
  • Music and Shakespeare under the stars with family and friends.

It’s part of what makes Colorado living feel less like a destination… and more like a lifestyle.
